Downtown Puzzle Contest

Join Games by James and the Rochester Downtown Alliance for the inaugural Downtown Puzzle Contest at the Historic Chateau Theatre! Get ready to put your brain to the test and have a blast solving jigsaw puzzles with friends and family. This in-person event is perfect for puzzle enthusiasts of all ages.

Work in teams to see who can complete their puzzle in the shortest amount of time. It's a race against the clock!

Date: Saturday, March 9, 2024

Time: 10:00 am General Competition (500 pc.) / 12:30 pm Family Competition (400 pc.)

Location: Historic Chateau Theatre, 1st Street SW, Rochester, MN (Peace Plaza)

Fee: $30 per team of 4

The Downtown Puzzle Contest will feature two rounds of puzzling competition: 

Round 1: 500 Piece Puzzle - up to 4 people on a team

Round 2: Family with Child(ren) 400 piece puzzle - up to 4 people on a team. Participants do not need to be related, the only requirement is that at least one team member be under 18 years old.

In each round, cash prizes will be awarded to the teams that finish in first, second, and third place. All teams get to keep their competition puzzle.

Schedule of Events:

10:00 AM - 500 Piece Contest Check-in

10:30 AM - 500 Piece Contest Begins

12:30 PM - 500 Piece Contest Ends

12:30 PM - 400 Piece Family Contest Check-in

1:00 PM - 400 Piece Family Contest Begins

2:30 PM - 400 Piece Family Contest Ends

Rules and Regulations:

  • Hands only! No use of any puzzle tools, flashlights, or phones allowed.

  • Use of table risers is not permitted. 

  • Distracting or interfering with other competitors is not allowed.

  • Judges will be monitoring the area and watching as teams get close to finishing. Raise your hand and a judge will come to your table to watch you finish and record your time.

  • There are no refunds of the registration fee, but registrations can be transferred to another team.

Concessions will be available onsite, and we encourage you to dine at one of the many great downtown Rochester restaurants before or after your competition!
